Skipper Otto’s is a community supported fishery (CSF) aiming to disintermediate the seafood market in Vancouver, Canada. By connecting local fishers directly with consumers, they are able to divert more income to fishers, while selling at a discount. This model allowed the CSF to experience rapid growth, which in turn led them to realize that they had reached their organizational capacity.
Skipper Otto’s original e-commerce platform did not have the capacity to link their daily cash flows and inventory counts, leading to much human error. To meet their financial and functional requirements, we designed a membership portal on the e-commerce software, Shopify. We also created a SKU system, able to be integrated into the Shopify platform.
